Michael
McKernan,
Director,
Lagan Consulting
Michael McKernan is a Director of Lagan Consulting. He has
15 years of local, national and international public affairs experience.
He also has extensive experience of strategic planning and communications
in public and private sectors. His career started as an Economist in
the Department of Finance in Dublin. After several years working for
Government, including a spell as Director of the National Standards
Authority (NSAI), and as a national negotiator in EU negotiations in
Brussels and Geneva he moved to a strategic role in Northern Ireland
Electricity in the run-up to privatisation. He subsequently became Interconnector
Business Manager, responsible for all aspects of interconnection between
Northern Ireland and both Scotland and the Irish Republic. Prior to
setting up Lagan Consulting he was General Manager, Ireland for the
Viridian Group.
In this role he spearheaded Viridian’s entry into the
energy market in RoI including intensive lobbying of Dáil Éireann, the
corporate sector and multiple other interests in preparing the ground
for a major independent power project.
He has indepth knowledge of all aspects of life in
Northern Ireland – a key requirement for his role as Editor of the Northern
Ireland Yearbook. Michael graduated in Economics from QUB and has
an MSSc in Irish Political Economy. He has a postgraduate qualification
in Business Strategy (IMI) and a Diploma in advanced statistical methods
(Trinity College, Dublin).
